A Wake-up Call: America is in danger of losing itself, this is how to save it

Great book - a rallying cry, a call to action. In this Trumpian era, this is a must read. I was particularly fascinated with the way this book hits on the three major issues of our times: IT (or technological progress), Fair (or the fight against inequality) and Sustainable (or defending our planet from pollution and climate change so that our children and grandchildren can enjoy it as we - still, if not for long - do)

It is also a very easy read, nice and short, not your usual academic brick. Don't miss out on it. And I think that if you're American (I'm not) this should act as a wake-up call. You really can't let Trump destroy America's leadership of the world and this book tells you quite clearly how to stop him.

About the Author
John L. Brooke is Humanities Distinguished Professor of History at Ohio State University, where he also directs the Center for Historical Research. His books include Columbia Rising: Civil Life on the Upper Hudson from the Revolution to the Age of Jackson (2010), which won the Best Book Prize from the Society of the Historians of the Early American Republic; The Heart of the Commonwealth: Society and Political Culture in Worcester County Massachusetts, 1713-1861 (Cambridge, 1994), which won the Merle Curti Award for Intellectual History from the Organization of American Historians; and The Refiner's Fire: The Making of Mormon Cosmology, 1644-1844 (Cambridge, 1989), which won the Bancroft Prize for American History. He has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, the American Antiquarian Society and the Harvard Charles Warren Center.

A Rather Amazing Synthesis of Knowledge!

Excellent synthesis of current knowledge of MANY aspects of science that are all too often viewed separately. John L. Brooke has written a work that draws together modern understanding of genetics/epigenetics, plate tectonics, climate change, punctuated evolutionary thought and far more in a manner that makes sense. While not "dumbed down" it is not written above the level of educated readers with general knowledge in search of more and how things interconnect. It is in the synthesis of concepts and their interconnecting aspects and feedback loops that Brooke shines. While not 'light' reading Brooke did not "write an Ambien".
What might have ended up being the rantings of somebody of lesser talent come across as a synthesis of scientific current understanding.

Excellent history

This volume is "big history" and "global history" at its best. Fully versed in both biological and hard sciences, historian John Brooke presents a masterful overview of the history of humankind from its beginning several million years ago to the present day. Throughout, Brooke illustrates the importance of climate changes in bringing about (indeed forcing) basic alterations in how people worldwide have lived. In very readable prose Brooke discusses how specific climate alterations deeply influenced the development of different types of human cultures over time. Part 1 of this volume analyzes the evolution of earth sytems from the formation of Earth about 4.6 billion years ago, and what those systems meant for living plants and creatures, through the development and global spread modern humankind. Part 2 examines the domestication of plants and animals, the development of agriculture, and the rise of state governments. Part 3 looks at ancient and medieval societies, and Part 4 examines human societies since about 1400 AD. Brooke stresses that climate changes and variabilities shaped human cultures until very recently. Only since the onset of industrialization has the relationship, Brooke shows, been reversed, with human actions shaping climate. Brooke's volume is essential for anyone interested in the course of history and current events--an enjoyable and valuable read.

Even when Hearn gives the reader some resolution, or even completely resolves a conflict, there are consequences, and the suspense is only banked, smoldering, ready to ignite. The plot of these books is complex, to say the least.

I absolutely love Lian Hearn. This book does not disappoint. I love that it is a prequel to The Tale of The Otori, full of magic and wonder. I'm so excited the story of the Otori clan continued and can't wait for the release of the next two books.

Gottfried Feder’s Manifesto for Breaking the Financial Slavery to Interest is one of a series of three books by the important, albeit now obscure German campaigner against parasitic debt-finance-capitalism. It was Feder who gave opposition to debt-finance and a demand for a new banking system a technical foundation without which the National Socialist economic and financial policies might not have gone beyond a vague enmity towards capitalism because of its identification with Jews. Feder attempted to interest the Munich Soviet in his ideas for banking reform, but in good Marxist fashion, this fell on deaf ears. It was left to the embryonic National Socialist group to see in Feder’s ideas the means of achieving both freedom from debt-bondage and the means by which the state could assume its prime duty to issue the community’s own credit limited only by its productivity and creativity. Even though, as the Reich progressed, Feder, like many other early idealists, was relegated to minor rank within the Third Reich, his fundamental ideas provided the basis for Germany’s socio-economic revival while the rest of the world wallowed in Depression. In this respect Feder is Germany’s equivalent to New Zealand’s John A. Lee, Australia’s Jack Lang, U.S.A.’s Father Charles Coughlin, and Britain’s C. H. Douglas and Arthur Kitson. Feder deserves an honoured place amongst the early fighters against usury-capital, a subject which continues to be, perhaps more than ever, of vital relevance to the world.

Good read for those who can actually create an independent thought.

Feder, proposed what many during his time were already very well aware of. Very few so-called "educated" people, during the present day have even a modicum of a clue, of where we are , much less how we got here. The Bankers, and their Usury, have made blind, complacent slaves of Humanity, and they now own, and control most of the World's governments. Usury, has spread like a terminal cancer, which there is now little hope of ever recovering from. This book is a good read for the truly educated independent thinker, but it will probably leave many somewhat depressed. Feder's message will probably be all but totally lost on the average person, who has been taught what to think, and believe, since birth.

Great Book!!!

I can't rate this book high enough though it is based on "common sense" financial principles that everyone should be aware of. I'm sure this book will get low marks for being (drum roll) "anti-Semite" but the Truth hurts, because the financial world we deal with and WHO is behind all of this "debt slavery" is exposed in this book and there is no denying it!!! There is only finger pointing, screaming defamation to obscure the Facts presented here, name calling, etc. etc. but the Truth presented in this book cannot be denied, only ignored. THIS is REAL reason why Germany had to be destroyed and the so-called "allies" have perpetuated their own financial slavery ever since. Instead of listening and believing all of the lies you've heard all of your lives, get this book and see/read the Truth for yourself for once.

Listed under Guitar music, you expect it to have Tablature. Should be labeled "Piano/Vocal/Guitar". If you're looking for tablature for this great album, this ain't it.

Previous buyers rated it low because they have no musical background. You can't throw pearls to the pigs and expect them to value them.
