Dr. Ali Al-Hilli is a scientist by profession with a PhD in computational Biology. He currently works for Public Health England, a UK government body that regulates the spread of infectious diseases in the UK. He is also active in the Islamic community where he has worked extensively with the youth and has set up and been involved in running various youth projects. He always encourages the youth to engage in dialogue and not be afraid in challenging the status quo. He played a vital role in establishing a successful young families initiative that regularly organises Islamic events aimed at couples and their children. Dr Al-Hilli also researchers and lectures in various Islamic topics including worship, theology and social affairs. He has made several media appearances discussing both political and Islamic TV issues. He is also currently studying for a MA in Islamic Studies at the Islamic College, UK.

In the first of the Fear Street series, Corey falls in love with Anna, the new girl at school. The only problem is that he can't tell if she's real--most of his friends have never seen her on campus, and she's not listed in the school's files. When he calls her family's home they are strange and evasive. In desperation, Corey goes to Anna's house --located on infamous Fear Street--and there a man tells Corey that Anna is dead. But a few nights later, Anna calls him and asks him to meet her. Anna's passionate kisses convince Corey that his love object is alive and kicking. The rest of this novel follows the same tedious pattern: each of Corey's torrid encounters with Anna is accompanied by several supposedly eerie incidents. Something strange is going on, but it is unlikely that readers will have the interest or stamina to stay with the mystery until it is resolved. Stine fans will have to hope that the rest of the Fear Street series proves a lot more fearsome than this tame offering. Ages 11-14.

For what it is, its pretty good

I had low expectations. I'm a twenty-something creative writing major and I just wanted a book I could get through quickly and get some mild enjoyment out of over my winter holiday. It took me approximatly 5 hours to read (and I'm kind of a slow reader) so it met my first expectation.

As far as being mildly enjoyable it hit the mark there too. Was it genius? No way. Actually as a writing student it was fun to correct his writing mistakes in my head as I went. But I enjoyed it. The book is nearly 170 pages long. The mystery had me going until page 100 when I put it down for the day. That night I woke in the middle of the night and half asleep I figured out the mystery. I finished the book anxious to see if I was right and I was. I literally figured out the mystery in my sleep. But the story was entertaining and the characters mildly interesting. And though I had the mystery all sorted out I was still excited to finish the book and confirm that I was correct.

There was one thing I was a little disappointed in, though its nit picking. I was really excited about this book because it was originally published in 1989. I was so ready for some all out 80's goodness! And it was there, the jock was wearing Converse sneakers like Emilio Estevez in Breakfast Club, a Honda Accord passed them on the street so I looked up a picture cause I just had to see what an '88 Accord looked like! I was having so much fun! Then all of a sudden the main characters IPod is blasting in his ears. WHAT??? I double checked, it was written in 89 and reprinted in 06. What the duce?? To make a long story short from what I can surmise it seems that what they did was they wanted to make the new edition of the book relevant to new generation so they swapped out what was probably a walkman in the original edition to be an IPod and changed some cult following film from the 80's to Lord of the Rings and the music at the school dance to Missy Elliot and Kanye West. They made quick name changes to easy things but the problem with this is that the big picture things couldn't be changed. It would require a whole rewrite of sections of the book. For instance, rather than jump on their home PC's and connect to the internet they go to the library computer lab to look through old newspapers. It doesn't make any sense and if you dont know that the book was originally published in 89 and they changed things it really makes it confusing and I can imagine readers feeling like the big picture things that happen don't make any sense and is using lack of technology as a bad plot device like in crappy horror movies.

Anyway, overall I really liked the book. I am looking forward to reading the next one.

it is great for kids that are looking for a good read

Holy nostalgia, Batman! The very first Fear Street book... took me right back to my childhood. I can't review on R.L. Stine's writing, because I'm an adult and this book/series is obviously meant for preteens/ young teens. This isn't literary award winning material. BUT, it is great for kids that are looking for a good read, a few twists and turns in the plot, and some spooky elements thrown in for good measure. I always loan out Fear Street books to students that want something scarier than Goosebumps, but might not be committed to 300+ page books.

I think this first Fear Street book had a really good premise, and a decent plot. The only issue I really had was it seemed rather repetitive. There were several scenes that it seemed like he couldn't think of what to do with, so he just reused the same spot over and over. Granted, it's not like the book is meant to carry over to a bunch of different places, considering it's about a place called "Fear Street".

I don't know, I guess overall I liked it well enough, and I for sure will keep reading. I'm sure the farther we get in the series, the better they will get. Right?

About the Author
Mike Press is Professor of Design Research and Head of the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. Rachel Cooper is Professor of Design Management at the University of Salford where she is Director of the Adelphi Institute for Research into Creative Arts and Sciences. Author of many books and papers in the field of design research, she is also the founder of both the European Academy of Design and the Design Journal of which she is the Editorial Chair. The authors collaborated previously in writing The Design Agenda: a guide to successful design management which is published in both English and Chinese. Very few lessons

The writer puts together an impressive line up of business people, ones with hugely successful careers from varied industries, but focuses far more on their biographies than their "mistakes". Worse yet, only a handful of the 30 cases actually had real mistakes to speak of and to learn from. Unfortunately this book is more entertainment than educational.

Too much primal behavior, not enough human elements

I was so excited when I read the sample, it seemed interesting and pulled me in. I was expecting so much more to this, a little romance some chase before the two main characters got together, but no. Everything about this was all about the raw base nature of the Were's and hardly no human element at all. Too much sex, way too much sex. Not enough emotion, I could not relate to one character and all the nudity and dominance showing licking and biting was weird and overdone. It was like reading about animals that moonlighted as humans occasionally. I was disappointed to say the least. I just discovered Radclyffe and I like a few of her romances and I guess I thought she would bring some of that romance element here to this series, but I was mistaken. If your looking for a cold, sex driven story with not enough interesting plot to not care about all the raw sex, then this is for you. I gave it two stars because the writing was not bad, but that's all that WASN'T that bad.

Utterly Horrible

This is one book that I truly had trouble finishing. I wouldn't classify it as romance so much as bestial sex on steroids. Don't get me wrong, I'll enjoy a good romance book as much as the next person, as long as there's actual *romance* involved. But this was just sex, sex, and more sex (at one point, I actually said "Not again.") and there was little emotion in it. I never felt the love between the main characters, and certainly never saw any character development. It felt like Raand was going too far into the primal, bestial mind of animals, and it reflected in the prevalent, (often violent) sex scenes. There wasn't much of a plot, either, and at the same time, I never felt I got to know any of the characters. There was no depth. Too many scenes of characters going into extremes of rage or arousal, with little in between. Honestly, this book fell far short of my expectations. I certainly won't be reading the others in the series. A big disappointment.

The bit of politics thrown in was pretty predictable and of course you can't trust vampires but ...

This is prob with a cheesy supernatural blanket over it. I'm being serious. The plot is weak the.characters may at some point have gotten interesting if 95% of them weren't always thinking about or having sex. The sex wasn't interesting but it was abundant. The characters incited in me more irritation than intrigue. The multiple species had a somewhat unique interpretation it just wasn't an interesting one and again revolved mainly around sex in their mind and their sexual interactions with each other. The relationships seemed almost solely based on sex. The bit of politics thrown in was pretty predictable and of course you can't trust vampires but the story itself was weak. People really seem to enjoy this but book and this series I bought this one to give it a shot before venturing on to the others but after reading this I can say with confidence and no disappointment whatsoever that I will NOT be reading anymore of this series. And this is perhaps the fifth book by this author(under this name or otherwise) that I've read and I've realized her style just doesn't seem for me this book was the nail in the coffin. However even with that being said I don't think my personal preference in authors or writing style are what turns me away from this book I really just don't like it. I suggest you borrow it if you can to see if it's your taste but I really don't think it's worth a buy I'm sorry.

Stunning pictures but lacking text

As essentially a "picture book," the title really does well here. Just over 300 pages long, each one a glossy full color page containing a full spread of a picture. The pictures themselves are stunning, both in printing and photographing - great color, saturation, framing, and overall composition. Paper weight is substantial, making the piece more of a coffee table book than something you'd sit in bed with. Somewhat chronologically arranged, starting with the earliest models, and moving through in chapters according to "erras," some of which overlap in years, to the modern day variants. Almost all pictures contain years and model designations, with some showcasing brief model specifications, such as engine, transmission, production, etc. The break in pages on the two-page spreads somewhat detracts from the viewing, but not much you can really do with that.

The text is really the low point of the book for me. What little text there is present is repeated in several languages, throughout most of the book. A short forward, and a small paragraph introducing each chapter is essentially the only information provided. No details on the history of each model, particular artwork / branding of the car, etc. Just a year, model, and a few sentences on what the particular era the chapter is based around. I understand providing a history lesson wasn't the main purpose of this book, but it would still have been nice to have a little background to accompany the stunning photographs.

Overall rather happy with the purchase; worth the price in my opinion. Definitely a book that will actually get picked up and flipped through for some time to come, and not just collect dust on some shelf. Great to show someone the progression of the brand, or as a conversation piece with company.

Lot's of Pictures

The pictures are fantastic but I was hoping for a complete history on the 911. If you are looking for an in depth look into how the 911 came about, you are looking at the wrong book. The book will give you a brief history of each model change but there is isn't enough meat to describe the conception, development and refinement of this fine vehicle.

Major Disappointment

I'm a Porsche enthusiast and own a 911 Turbo. I bought this book expecting to read "the" illustrated history of this amazing car. However, for my surprise, it is basically a bunch of nice photographs bundled together in chronological order. There is almost no text or information. Well, if you like photography, as I do, then this may be a book for you. But if you want to learn about the Porsche 911 and its history, then look for something else. Too expensive for what it is. Well, I returned the book to Amazon.
