About the Author
Born on Easter Sunday, the oldest of eight children, Dani Sinclair began her official writing career when her sister asked her to write a romance novel. A latecomer to the genre, she combines her love for romance with her need to write suspense and humour.Her first published novel, MYSTERY BABY, debuted in May 1996. Since that time she's sold fifteen books to Harlequin Intrigue, one to Harlequin Temptation, and two Special Projects. In addition, she's written a daily on-line serial for Harlequin's Web page. Her third Intrigue novel, BETTER WATCH OUT, was a RITA finalist in the Romantic Suspense category. In March 2001, Romantic Times nominated Dani for a Career Achievement award in the Series Romantic Suspense category. They also nominated her book, THE SPECIALIST, for the Reviewers' Choice Best Harlequin Intrigue of 2000. Dani has been profiled in The Journal Newspaper in West Virginia, Romantic Times Magazine, Gothic Journal, and Harlequin's Reader Service Heart to Heart overseas. She's spoken to several organisations as well as various writers' groups, and has been a speaker for the Friends of the Library organisation in both Maryland and Ohio.Dani belongs to Romance Writers of America and Washington Romance Writers. The 3rd book in the series...

This is the third book in the Heartskeep series. Alexis Ryder has just found, from her dying father, that she was adopted illegally. She sets off with a bloody suitcase full of money to find her real family. She meets and falls for Wyatt, a cop in the town where her family is. He mistakes her for one of her sisters and she lets him believe the lie so that she can find out more about her family and the reason why there are people after her.
I enjoyed this book, especially the romance between the characters. The final book in the series usually ties it all up nicely, but I thought that in this case it was a little too pat. It wasn't that hard to figure out who did it, and all was forgiven a little too easily. A good summer read.

Better than I expected

This is a Mills and Boon Silhouette, ‘Intrigue’ romance. That probably means a lot to those who read these books regularly. As a writer, and a bloke, I read this one to see whether it was a genre I could write. So, bear all that in mind as you read this review.

It is, of course, a love story. But it’s also a lot more. The element of crime is strong, as are the elements of family and social injustice. A lot of readers condemn these books out of hand, assuming they’re poorly written and formulaic. I found this to be neither of those things.

There is suspense, mystery, tension, both sexual and general, and there is, of course, a burgeoning romance. It’s this final element that’s formulaic. The reader understands that the two main protagonists are destined for each other and recognises the barriers placed for them to cross in order to arrive at the essential happy ending (no, I don’t think that’s a spoiler: a romance of this nature has a happy ending; they all do).

As for the writing? It’s tense where it should be, description isn’t overdone, the action scenes are well handled and the relationships, complex and multi-faceted, are presented cleverly. I found the plot a little over-cooked and the author seemed to have found herself in something of a maze, if the denouement narrative is a guide. The ending reminded me a bit of Agatha Christie’s Poirot and his habit of describing his method of detection to the gathered guilty and innocent.

For me, character is the most important factor in a book. The individuals who people these pages are well drawn and various. That they can be slotted into various stereotypes is inevitable, given the narrow guidelines determined by the publishers, but that doesn’t prevent these particular players from being real people. I enjoyed the strong female lead and the object of her desire fitted in well with her hopes with enough potential flaws to make the reader wonder just enough. The minor players were also well constructed.

There is inevitably, given the specifics set by the publishers, rather more telling than showing than is good for the book. And some of the twists and turns seem to have been inserted ‘on the hoof’ rather than planned; but I can hardly complain at that, since I do it all the time myself.

But, in spite of its intended female readership and the slant it must take for such an audience, I enjoyed the read and found it largely satisfying. For those who care, there remains an unanswered question, of course. The answer is that I have already written a book containing much of what we find here, but I couldn’t write for this specific genre. It’s too confined and controlled for the way I write. But that’s not a reflection of the ability of this author; she’s worked within the constraints admirably and turned out a pretty good read that, I imagine, will sit very happily with those who more regularly read this type of fiction.

So, if you enjoy your romance with intrigue, mystery and some threat facing the heroine, you’ll get good value and plenty of entertainment from this one. Give it a go.

While on facebook, a sister from church stated she thought it was time to read The Shack again so I looked it up to see what it was about and immediately order it for my kindle fire. Once I started reading it I read it in a 24 hour period because I couldn't put it down. Once he got to the shack I got so excited in the story I had to calm myself down and take it slow because my mind was all over the place wondering what I'd do or say. I love this book and like my sister friend I will read it again and again and imagine myself there.

A real struggle, examples are riddled with errors, be prepared

I normally won't rate a book until I've finished it, and I'm only about a third of the way through the book (chapter 10), but because the author states the book relies heavily on one sample project (Passer Rating), I can't imagine things will be improving much.
Starting with chapter 8, everything becomes a basket-of-weasels frustrating. Unless you were already familiar with previous versions of Xcode, Obj-C, and debugging other people's code, prepare for a firehose of outside-of-book learning in order to get through each section.
The author says there are purposeful bugs in the code, and those are fine; but the code as shown in the book is also literally riddled with bugs that aren't expected or explained. Frustratingly, the sample code is not the same as what's in the book (it actually compiles - you'll absolutely want to download it, because you'll need to refer to it *constantly* and compare it to the book code to progress at all), with excruciatingly annoying frequency: misplaced quote marks, misplaced or extra brackets, a jillion downcast errors... if you're new to the Swift syntax, good luck spotting all the anomalies.
Also, the author's choice to use mogenerator (a 3rd party code generating tool) is very unfortunate. It's a massive pain to get to run properly based on the code provided. So you'll be fighting erroneous code in Terminal as well; hopefully you're used to that.
At one point, one of the undocumented bugs had me thinking Ruby was broken on my Mac (yes, there are Ruby scripts, too) - this was not the case. After about 2 hours of research into an error referring to Ruby (/usr/bin/env ruby no such file), and almost needlessly reinstalling Ruby, I finally worked out that the Ruby script provided by the author wasn't finding the file it was looking for, and my Ruby install was fine. (I'm telling you this in case it happens to you - that's the problem.)
The code fragments are ambiguous - you'll have to explore the sample code to figure out where to put functions, and I highly recommend *not* turning off the "Show live issues" preference as the author asks in chapter 2 (page 22). If you're not already familiar with Swift, you'll need them way before he tells you to turn it back on, to catch the many, many compile errors that will stop you from progressing.
Overall, this book is a real struggle, so be prepared.

If you’re a software developer reading it will be very easy to understand

The book is composed of five parts with twenty-eight chapters and two appendixes.
From the first to the fifth chapter the book starts with the basis of all software development: download IDE, hello world, write code, compile and debug.
Whoever wants to begin to develop with Xcode has to read these chapters.
If you’re a software developer reading it will be very easy to understand.
The sixth chapter talks about the management of library. it is very helpful because of the different types of libraries sometimes can be frustrating for the developer.
One of the best qualities of xcode is version control. In the seventh chapter it is introduced very clearly passing from the creation of local repository to resolution of conflicts and comparison of different versions of code.
The second part of the book talks about the whole cycle of writing and managing an iOS app.
The eighth chapter starts with the explanation of the MVC pattern and how an iOS app project is composed up to the eleventh chapter.
The twelfth chapter brings up the developer with the autolayout system, a very powerful tool that allows us to display the same data in different devices without getting bored with the one device / one layout way.
To level up we have to move on to the fifteenth chapter that introduces the unit testing practices. Even though in most companies there are people called testers that are developers that do only testing however It would be best for the whole team of develoepers to think about testing. The goal of this chapter is to permit everyone to know all about unit testing with xcode.
The sixteenth chapter explains something that most of the time developers don’t do, that is measure the speed of an app. Even though the app is very reactive, however it is good to analyze how long our functions last to prevent bad surprises in the future and xcode has one of the best tools to measure the performance in every aspect: cpu, memory and so on.
The seventeenth chapter explains how to write an extension. Very helpful to share in different projects.
The last chapter of the second part (eighteenth chapter) describes the provisioning for an ios app. From the project to the apple store there are some steps that have to be completed in order to test and to publish our app.
First of all the developer program is a requirement, even to test and debug the app on our devices. After that the sandbox and in the end, sign the app to publish on the apple store.
The third part of the book follows the same things of previous part but this time it talks about osx application, adding few arguments like localization in the twenty-first chapter and bundles in the twenty-second chapter.
The last part of the book seems like a miscellaneous chapter: the twenty-fourth chapter introduces the vast amount of documentation in xcode, from the intellincence up to the classic developer documentation, passing from docblock documentation.
The twenty-fifth chapter completes the formamentis regarding the xcode system: edit build variable and advanced command line tools. To be sure of what happens on our applications, xcode offers several tools to check, debug and monitor the apps.
In the twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh chapter tools like time profiler to monitor the load of the cpus at the time, energy diagnostics, view UI hiearchy to debug the UI and breakpoints are introduced.
The last chapter shows some snippets for developers to allow them to do their work more quickly.
The book ends with two appendixes in part five with some extra information about building variables and several online resources.

Xcode 6 Start to Finish was a waste of money

Xcode 6 Start to Finish does not have any useful examples to display graphics, explain how to employ the user interface or how to input data and output results. This is not a start to finish text book. If it were not for the Xcode examples I found 5 years ago it would be totally impossible to program Xcode using only this book. Any of the Xcode for Dummies books are a much better for teaching Xcode.

Keating, MPH, EdD, RN, C-PNP, FAAN is the Orvis Endowed Professor at the Orvis School of Nursing, University of Nevada at Reno, where she teaches Curriculum Development and Evaluation in Nursing, Instructional Design and Evaluation and the Nurse Educator Practicum. Curriculum Development and Evaluation in Nursing by Sarah B. Keating (ed.) (2006) has seven sections and 15 chapters as a practical guide for developing curricula at the ADN, BSN, entry level masters, specialty and advanced practice masters, and doctoral programs. Section one is introduction to the history of curriculum development and faculty role. Section two is about learning theories, education taxonomies, and critical thinking. Section three presents the external and internal frame factors for conducting a needs assessment for reviewing and developing curricula. Section four, curriculum development, addresses undergraduate and graduate components of the curriculum. Section five, curriculum and program evaluation, covers master planning for program and curriculum evaluation, application of educational evaluation models, and planning for accreditation. Section six adapts curriculum development and evaluation to staff development and client-centered health education. Section seven reveals issues and trends in curriculum development and evaluation. The chapters are written by 12 contributing authors. Keating writes "A curriculum is the formal plan of study that provides the philosophical underpinning, goals, and guidelines for the delivery of a specific educational program." Faculty is responsible and need a view of the curriculum as a whole. History is a strength of the book. Authors address the transformative and constructivist learning theories, the use of technology to deliver the curriculum, distance education and the measurement of program outcomes as part of total quality management. Both formal and informal curricula are diagramed. Chapters have a summary, discussion questions, learning activities, faculty learning activities and references. Figures, tables, case studies, and examples of documents facilitate understanding. This introduction to curriculum development and evaluation is intended for graduate students preparing for the faculty role, new teachers, preceptors and mentors for students, and nurse educators in practice settings.

Its a textbook. Are any of them actually good to read? Seriously tho, its packed with useful information that my sister used for her nursing class. I buy her textbooks, as part of our agreement :) She liked it.

Required text

This is one of several required texts for a graduate level nursing course in Curriculum Development I am taking at James Madison University. It is one of the best in the field of nursing education and one of the most readable. It is thorough without being too wordy, and is strongly evidence-based. I recommend it for future nurse educators even if you don't have to buy it for a course.
