Explaining Grammar Teaching

When most people think of grammar, they think of endless drills in which students repeat endless lists of grammatical forms. What this book teaches you is that there are many ways to teach grammar. The three main methods outlined are teaching grammar as a product, as a process, and as a skill. These three ways of teaching have different advantages and disadvantages. Through examining the examples in this book, you will be able to take advatage of these different methods of grammar instruction, and learn to judge which methods are appropriate for which situations. For teachers who are using a communicative approach, but are disappointed with the results of purely communicative method, the approach of teaching grammar as a skill will provide the missing element that is needed in the lesson to improve accuracy. This book belongs in every language teacher's library.

Thought Provoking

I really loved this book. It helped me approach my grammar and teaching in an entirely different way. If you've been an ESL teacher for a while, this could open some avenues for you to explore in your teaching. It is more though provoking than prescriptive. I have taken things I have learned and created some really interesting lessons.
I originally purchased this for my DELTA course, and I am very happy that I did. I have read other books in the series, but this is by far my favorite.
