About the Author
Robert Beard is a geologist and has collected rocks for over 30 years. In his early days of rock collecting, fellow geologists said that he would get over the excitement from finding an interesting rock, but that never happened. He majored in geology at California State University, Chico and his first rock collecting trips focused on the northern Sierra Nevada and southern California desert. He received his B.A. in geology, with a minor in mathematics from CSUC in 1983. He then attended the University of New Mexico as a graduate student in geology, and spent considerable time looking for rocks in New Mexico's mountains and deserts. He worked briefly for a mining company as part of an exploration team during his first summer in New Mexico, and got to see many different types of mineral deposits and geologic terrains, and developed a keen understanding minerals and how to find them. He received his M.S. degree in geology from UNM in 1987, at a time when the mining and oil industries were flat on their backs, but the environmental cleanup industry was just getting started. In 1988 he moved to the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area to pursue a career as an environmental geologist. Since then he has remained alert for opportunities to see geology and collect rocks, minerals, and fossils, as he was taught that the best geologist is the one that has the most rocks. He has collected rocks throughout most regions of the United States and parts of the Caribbean, and the past few years he was focused on finding new collecting sites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is a Contributing Editor to Rock & Gem magazine, and has written from Rock & Gem since 1993. He also speaks Spanish, which has been a very useful skill for geology, especially when working in Spanish-speaking environments. He currently lives in Harrisburg, PA with his wife, Rosalina, and his two children, Daniel and Roberta.

Must have for NY rock hounders

We have used this book a few times already even though I just got it. One site near Lake George was a bust, but I suspect that it's been picked clean in the 7 or so years since the book was written. Everything else we've checked out has been great. Definitely glad I bought this book.

Almost a darned-good book. Now let's finish it.

Many rock formations were not discussed, and many mountainous, rocky areas of New York state were not mentioned. Had the author combined his knowledge with the enthusiastic, deeply-educated "rock-hound" geology students at Cornell University, I'm sure I'd have learned more. Is it a bad book? Not at all! It is merely unfinished and geographically secular.

Besides being a personal friend Rob Beard's his book is a neat summary of his years of experience in the field. Never knew there were so many more places in PA to collect. He puts you right there with narrative and photos. Makes me want to get out with my rock hammer.

About the Author
Todd H. Green is associate professor of religion at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He is the author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on the topics of Islamophobia and secularization in the West, along with the book Responding to Secularization: The Deaconess Movement in Nineteenth-Century Sweden (2011). Green is also the editor of Islam, Immigration, and Identity (2014).

An important book written to overcome one of the most socially acceptable forms of bigotry in the modern era

You know there really isn't anything about this book to not like. It's very straightforward and programmatic, but that's needed. It walks the reader through the history of the development of Islamophobia in Western culture, including in-depth analysis of some of the most significant cultural moments of the last century.

Definitions are clear. The book acknowledges consistently that it is explaining Islamophobia to a Western audience. It does not try to speak "for" Muslims, as if one could do that in any sense. It concludes with a set of interviews with major voices for understanding Islam better. This final Q&A, how to overcome Islamophobia, is robust, and a wonderful agenda to follow.

I can hardly believe how helpful this book is. It needs to be read in every religion department of every university.

This book is a must read for anyone wishing to understand one of the most important points of social tension in the world today.

Green is not only an excellent scholar, but he is also a gifted communicator. This book traces the origins of Islamophobic ideas from the middle ages and the period of the Reformation down to the current day, with a special focus on the rhetoric surrounding 9/11 and the period afterwards. It is written for the average educated reader, so Green avoids jargon and does a wonderful job of explaining complex ideas--such as the importance of post-colonial theory for understanding Islamophobic thinking--in a way that is not only clear and understandable but is also utterly compelling and interesting.

A POTPOURI FOR MODERN MEN

As advertised, this is a large collection of helpful and useful facts intended to proactively improve the overall well being of modern males. There are many facets, some new, others not so new, which contain varying degrees of usefulness. Maybe it's just me, but I suspect more than a normal amount of vanity will be required for the average dude to purchase this book. I bought it for the potential health benefits, but was underwhelmed. I already read most of the health tips described in the book - which are commonly known and widely disseminated (basically lotsa exercise & a good diet ... right?). Some of the other aspects of the book "self-esteem" as an example, have more originality and include useful material. The read is occasionally humorous, but I personally believe its greatest value for most men will be to serve as a reference book for the average Joe who buys it.

Many things were basic although the book did go into some specific details regarding diet and exercise. If you are a regular subscriber to Men's Health magazine these tips might just be repetitive.

Stephen Ross is presently the Franco Modigliani Professor of Finance and Economics at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. One of the most widely published authors in finance and economics, Professor Ross is recognized for his work in developing the Arbitrage Pricing Theory and his substantial contributions to the discipline through his research in signaling, agency theory, option pricing, and the theory of the term structure of interest rates, among other topics. A past president of the American Finance Association, he currently serves as an associate editor of several academic and practitioner journals. He is a trustee of CalTech, a director of the College Retirement Equity Fund (CREF), and Freddie Mac. He is also the co-chairman of Roll and Ross Asset Management Corporation.

Randoloph W. Westerfield is Dean of the Marshall School of Business at University of Southern California and holder of the Robert R. Dockson Dean’s Chair of Business Administration. From 1988 to 1993, Professor Westerfield served as the chairman of the School’s finance and business economics department and the Charles B. Thornton Professor of Finance. He came to USC from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he was the chairman of the finance department and member of the finance faculty for 20 years. His areas of expertise include corporate financial policy, investment management and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and stock market price behavior. Professor Westerfield has served as a member of the Continental Bank trust committee, supervising all activities of the trust department. He has been consultant to a number of corporations, including AT&T, Mobil Oil and Pacific Enterprises, as well as to the United Nations, the U.S. Department of Justice and Labor, and the State of California.

Bradford D. Jordan is Professor of Finance and Gatton Research Fellow in the Carol Martin Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky. He has a long-standing interest in both applied and theoretical issues in corporate finance, and has extensive experience teaching all levels of corporate finance and financial management policy. Professor Jordan has published numerous articles on issues such as cost of capital, capital structure, and the behavior of security prices.

corporate finance book

I ordered this book for my finance class. I recieved the book in an excellent condition and delivery time was very reasonable. I also got an excellent deal on the book since it is an older version , but the teacher is okay using an older version since there weren't a lot of changes between the new edition and the old one. This is the sixth week of classes and I am cvery happy with the book.

Rebecca McCormick found herself doubting if life would ever be worth living again. Just one month ago she had been a very contented housewife and mother. She had kept busy with her home, her hobbies, helping around the farm, and her community activities. At thirty, she had been so happy. When her children both entered school and her friends encouraged her to work like they were, she chose to stay home and continue life as it had been for the past eleven years.

Her husband, Mike, farmed with his father, and they both enjoyed the quiet life they shared. He was kind, patient, always gentle, and loving. Carrie and Andy, their children, were two years apart in age and great friends. Carrie, a quiet child who loved to read and enjoyed music, was the oldest. Andy was very active and extremely curious about everything in his world. Both did well in school and were well liked.

Around four-thirty, Mike and the kids had gone into town for a video movie. Their little ones were chatting excitedly about which film to choose.

This is how Rebecca would always remember them. They were gone now, all of them, and only she was left to go on.

With Christmas only a week away, Rebecca was miserable. Then, a letter came from Mike's Aunt Edna in Minnesota. Mike had mentioned her a few times during their marriage but she had never met Edna. In the letter, Edna invited Rebecca to visit, "knowing this first Christmas would be a difficult time for her." She called the phone number on the letter to accept the invitation.

This is a must read!

This is a lovely story. It holds your attention. The characters are so well woven together. I read it quickly and immediately reread it. There is so much description of the people, places, homes, situations. Hard to believe this is her first book. I am anxiously waiting for her next book.

Good book to read with a hot cup of coffee

I liked this book. I took it on my vacation to read in the evenings. It is the type of book that you sit down with a hot cup of coffee and snuggle into a couch and spent quality time. I would recommend for a good read to anyone who is looking for this kind of book.

Very warm and inviting book to read. Can be read in a short period of time. Holds your interest through each chapter and also sends a spiritual message of hope that God will guide us through the toughest times. Enjoyed it very much.
